One of the activities InCommon migrant women reported liked most was cinema, not watching movies but doing it together, in a group, as a special going out.
Exploring the possibilities of doing a cultural activity with films we look back to “Exit, a short film”, one of the good practices collected in the InCommon project. Exit, is an interactive short film that tells the stories of fifteen women who one day made the decision to migrate to Spain. This film invites the viewers to put themselves in the shoes of women and decide on the different options, dilemmas or paths to take, which will lead the women protagonists to one or other situations.
This screening aimed to open the debate and make visible the different situations that migrant women have to face in their life journey. We wanted to create a knowledge space between these women and the people of the host community to share the different experiences, perspectives and vital expectations. For this reason the director of the film was invited to the session and there was a colloquium with participants.
Film screening is an activity for all the stages of the Cultural Citizenship Scale. The audiovisual stories help to brake the ice and encourage people to participate.
