Self expression and sharing experiences are vital for integration in local society. The project “Open Doors” was initiated through the discussions during the sessions. Women shared stories and experiences while living in Cyprus and the idea of the project was born. For the women, each new door they go through symbolizes a new experience, good or bad, an interesting story, a new job, a new friendship or even a new learning experience.
A group of women from Philippines and Zimbabwe that participated in the workshops on Digital Competence decided that they wanted to create short videos to share how their life has changed during their stay in Cyprus. The theme was called “Open Doors”.
An introductory session was held to explain how videos should be created. The women took pictures of doors that had a meaning in their life, such as the door of their church, the door of their current employer, the door of their home etc. Each door represented good or bad memories they had to share. EDITC assisted them with the compilation of the photos and the creation of the digital stories.
This was a successful activity because women brought to the community their experiences from their “new” lives in their new country. Listening to the stories of other women was empowering as they could share emotions and lessons learnt.
The activity connects with level 3 and 4 of the Cultural Citizenship Scale.
