During our workshops and through discussions it became evident that although the women had been in different places across the island, they have never visited any cultural sites, museums, traditional monasteries or churches.
One of the groups decided to visit the Cyprus Museum. Women contacted the Cyprus Museum and did a research. They came in contact with the owner and arranged for free access and a guide.
An initial meeting was carried out to provide guidelines and assistance on how to research and what information should be provided to the rest of the group. The team leader disseminated the information with the use of a Viber group and through meetings organized by the community. A representative of EDITC participated numerous times to these meetings.
The final milestone of this activity was a full day trip which included a visit to the Cyprus museum. EDITC assisted the women to coordinate with the rest of the teams for the visit.
After the visit sessions were held to summarize the learning outcomes of the visit and the lessons learn from the entire process.
The team collaborated well and kept in contact with EDITC throughout the process. The visit was very fulfilling, and the guide was very informative. The women were motivated to spend time with the guide and learn as much as they can. The museum exhibited items used in the old days and which may be still found in Cyprus villages until today, such as bread plates, wine and water carafes, traditional beds and chairs etc.
This type of visits are applicable to all stages of the Cultural Citizenship Scale but in this case is conected with levels 3 and 4. The women themselves get the information, plan and organise the activitity in a team work.
