In 2019, Peter Handke was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. As Handke was born in the state of Carinthia, there was big media coverage. Through the InCommon training, some women had developed the practice of regularly reading the newspaper or watching the regional news. This motivated the women to organize this visit.
16 persons, including 13 migrant women from Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo and India along with local volunteers from Austria visited the drama ‘Die Stunde da wir nichts voneinander wußten’ (The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other) authored by the Nobel laureate novelist, playwright, translator, poet, film director and screenwriter.
This was a great learning experience as it was the most discussed cultural event of the month. Moreover, this was a drama without spoken dialogues. After the visit, the women shared their interpretations with other women and this provided an opportunity to realise the diverse cross-cultural interpretations.
This activity connects with the CC3: Participation to activities involving national and EU cultural heritage.
