A group of women from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, who had participated in the Cultural Competence workshops of InCommon project, were motivated to organize an activity to explore one of the renowned cultural resources of the city: the City Theatre. In addition, the participants were keen to explore economic opportunities in this cultural sector.
With support from the KIST team, a guided tour ‘City Theater Klagenfurt – Behind the scene’ was organised for the participants. 18 persons, including 15 migrant women from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and India along with local volunteers from Austria participated. The focus was to expose the participants to the diverse professions associated with a theatre production.
This visit was a great success as one of the women courageously asked for an apprenticeship and actually got it later on. Such exposure visits in multicultural groups empower the women to move up in the early stages of the active cultural citizenship.
