Ojos Negros is a musical event organised by a group of women participating in the InCommon project.
The idea was the result of the common work carried out within the leadership training course organised in Santander during the months of April and May 2019. The participants had the final goal to design a cultural / educational project or activity reflecting their concerns and with feasibility to undertake it.
The love for singing and traditional music, in addition to the will to share with the Santander community a part of Russian culture led to the organisation of this evening.
The participants sought a municipal cultural centre where they could perform the recital, contacted other singers and musicians to complete the performance, developed a program and organised the technical and dissemination aspects to carry out this activity. The support provided by DOCUMENTA, promoter of the InCommon project in Spain, was limited to the processing of applications and linguistic support in presentations and dissemination material.
In addition to the skills displayed for the organisation of the activity, both the program and the development of the performance were designed to connect symbols and common narratives to all cultures through the music.
This cultural intervention is framed in stages 3 and 4 of the Cultural Citizenship Scale that means migrant women active in the communities where they live and with broad social networks, and the ability to manage themselves. This women have a cultural story that they want to share with other members of the community and can be a model for other women on their way to social inclusion.
