Innovative Age Management Concepts Ensuring the Transfer of Knowledge and Experience of Elderly Workers

LIKE LODZThe European initiative LIKE, committed to combat age barriers in employment and promoting the adaptability of older workers to the changing business and social environment, has completed its first year and a half devoted mainly to the study, analysis and research of the employment / age trends in the EU, and the factors and challenges affecting workers 50+.

We are currently finalizing the activities of the third work package aiming to develop Business Concepts for Age Management & Investment in the HR sector (work package 3) whose main outcome is the development of the Model for Enterprises Age Management compiling comprehensive approaches such as free age recruitment and retention, training programmes specific for older workers, intergenerational programs aimed to elderly workers, intergenerational programmes, flexible working, health protection and promotion, etc.

LIKE LODZ2June 10th-11th 2013, LIKE partnership carried out the fourth transnational meeting of the project to present the activities undertaken by each partner and the actions planned to take place during the second half of the project.

At the meeting in Poland, DOCUMENTA has presented the Analysis of Older Workforce, that through SWOT methodology, identifies the strengths and weaknesses of older workers, employers’ challenges and opportunities to keep the talent and hire senior workers and, finally, the threats related to the competences and skills updating for the future labour market demands.

A training programme aimed to RH professionals will be created based on the results of the SWOT analysis and the rest of the reports under this work package. This programme will be implemented through different pilot workshops in enterprises allocated in Poland. Furthermore, in the rest of the partners’ countries, different seminars will be carried out to introduce and implement Age Management Concepts and training workshops aimed to workers over 50 to promote lifelong learning and competence updating in order to increase their employability in the future labour market.

Another important aspect of LIKE project is raising awareness of workers and employers, trade unions and enterprises, trainers, HR professionals and authorities at local, regional and national levels in the five project partner countries, on the importance of age management at work. The goal is the promotion and implementation of innovative age management approaches at the workplace, promoting lifelong learning and the transfer of knowledge and experience of older workers.
