2. OVERVIEW

This project addresses the need to improve the qualification and the updating of training in of a wide spectrum of tourism professionals to adapt to the new requirements of the sector within a knowledge-based economy; where ICT and open and flexible learning methods (e-learning, OER) are a key support of the LLL and the reduction of economic barriers, social and cultural between European countries (“The Future of Learning: Preparing for Change”, EC Joint Research Centre, 2011).

The main aim of INMATOUR project is to contribute to the adaptation of the knowledge, skills and competences of tourism sector practitioners to the current needs of market, reducing the gap between the needs labour demands-training through the design of a profile and a training curriculum of innovation management in tourist destinations. This profile is intended to achieve 3 goals: 1. Strengthen the links between education/training in tourism and the world of work, 2. Use management innovation as a tool for to improve competitiveness of companies and tourist destinations 3. Adapt training in knowledge and skills of the tourism professionals to the needs and current strategies of development of the tourist market.

INMATOUR expected results are:

1. Design of 1 VET curriculum in accordance with the current needs for training in innovation at the tourism sector. The new curriculum will take into account the framework of development and tourism market trends, as well as the crucial issues of management of innovation to improve competitiveness of tourism-based economies and raise the qualification level in terms of tourism learners and practitioners.

2. Development of new training materials with innovative theoretical and practical contents, focused on the acquisition of practical skills to foster innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in tourist areas.

3. An enlarged (territorial) scale and scope (in relation to the target group and the sector to which it is addressed) through the dissemination of good practices and case studies real in innovation management at sectoral and territorial level (on different tourist destinations in participating countries): increase the level of awareness and know-how of companies, organizations and professionals at European level on how to create innovation, tools and ways to incorporate this concern as a major trend.

4. Creation and dissemination of the contents for a future multimedia course (at the European level). The course will be based on with specific training materials adapted to an e-learning environment (free access).

5. Development of a new IT tool (web-based platform), which will act as a vehicle for dissemination and exploitation of the results of the project (INMATOUR Multimedia support and Social Community dissemination and training in open platform specially created for the contents.)

3. TARGET GROUP

At the European level, the main target groups will be:

  • Tourism experts and technical staff at local, regional and National tourism administrations, Regional Tourism boards.
  • Academic and VET training sectors: undergraduate students attending the last two years of their studies, recent graduates, VET learners in Tourism, hospitality and Marketing areas, teachers and trainers at VET institutes and training centres. VET-providers and VET-authorities at regional, national and European levels.
  • Local Development Agencies (LDAs)- with a double role staff training and provision of new learning paths.
  • Project technicians and responsible for Tourism Competitiveness Plan and other tourism management action co-shared with public administration.
  • Companies, entrepreneurs, business associations in the tourism sector, non-governmental members of public-private bodies for tourism development.

At the national level; the target groups will be also those who have been listed above, but with a greater emphasis on different types of professional profiles linked to development of tourism on the local, national and European levels.
