SEE-ME: innovative and practical methodology to work with Early School Leavers
SEE-ME project aims to address the lack of an early warning system or methodological tool that makes the school to pay attention to a student at risk as early as possible and take proper actions to prevent Early School Leavers. School is one of the influences that can provide an early attention for the pattern of risk factors that play a role in a particular moment or period in a student’s life.
INTERNATIONAL RESEACH
Project involves comprehensive study of Early School Leaving process. ESL partnership conducted international qualitative research in the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Spain and Sweden with students who left school, their teachers, parents and school representatives.
General research question was “Which factors predict in a premature stage early school leaving?”. We focused on those relevant factors that could identify Early School Leavers at a very early stage in the ESL process, whether or not in a specific combination (within a multilevel system).
Factors we looked at:
• person of the student,
• student socio-economic background and environment outside school,
• the key forces and actors within the school,
• the school environment interactions during the whole process of prior education,
• orientation on (vocational) education,
• application and introduction,
• first school results and continuation (or not).
We are working on methodological handbook for school, which will help them prevent and work with Early School Leaving phenomenon. A full version of handbook will be prepared on: peer groups discussion on draft guidelines and free seminars with school representatives.
All trainers and teachers interested in new methods of working with Early School Leavers are welcome to join ESL network and discus international research finding with us. We are open for real or on-line discussion about our results. First we can start with sending you our research report (English version), later on we could invite you on free seminar for teachers and school representatives working with Early School Leavers.
